Obituary for David Carl Massoglia

David Carl  Massoglia
David Massoglia, age 58, a resident of Calumet passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday October 4, 2016 at the Omega House in Houghton.

He was born on December 11, 1957 in Calumet to John and Anna (Butkovich) Massoglia.

He attended and graduated from Calumet High School with the Class of 1976.

Following graduation, Dave joined the United States Air Force in 1977. His career started at the Air Force base at KI Sawyer in Marquette. He was then transferred up to Houghton where he worked as a recruiter; he then was stationed at Edwards Air Force Base in California. He was then called to active duty, where he served in Ankara, Turkey during Operation Desert Storm. Following his service in Turkey he was transferred to Minot, North Dakota, where he retired from active duty.

Once he retired from active duty, he entered the corrections academy, following his graduation from the corrections academy; he began his career with the Michigan Department of Corrections. He was employed at the Baraga Correctional Facility, where he worked from 1992 to July of 2016.

Dave loved his children and grandchildren more than anything. He always said his grandchildren brightened his day.

He the jokester of the group, he sure loved to make people laugh.

Dave had a love for the outdoors, he spent many seasons out deer hunting.

He was a very hard worker, and he loved to provide anything for his children and grandchildren. He made sure that his hard work was instilled in his children.

He also had a special place in his heart for his cats, Priscilla and Simba.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Dorothy Chopp, Shirley Houle, and Maggie Wendell, and his brother Dennis Massoglia.

He is survived by:

Son: Joseph Massoglia of Ghedi, Italy

Daughters: Julie (Dan) Giachino of Calumet

Sarah (Matt) Hampton of Laurium

Samantha (Anthony Ditty) Massoglia of Ishpeming

5 grandchildren: Sophia, Abby, Henrik Hampton and Ava and Mia Giachino

Brothers: Jack (Sandy) Massoglia of Houghton

Mike (Noel) Massoglia of Calumet

Bob Massoglia of Kalamazoo

Sister-in-law: Nancy Massoglia of Dollar Bay

Aunt: Barb Kinnunen

Former wife & continued friend: Connie Greenleaf of Hancock

Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Monday October 10, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 8:00. A prayer service will be held on Monday October 10, 2016 at 7:45 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday October 11, 2016 at Sacred Heart Church in Calumet at 11:00 am.

Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
