Scott Dean Bennetts was born July 29th, 1959, the son of Carol (Fraki) and John Bennetts. He may have been born with Down Syndrome, but all that meant was an extra chromosome. He lived life to the fullest. He was an avid golfer, artist, swimmer (he often referred to himself as a fish), Green Bay Packers fan, and a ladies’ man. He had many girlfriends (it depended on the day), and loved to dance with them all. He checked in by phone with each member of the family around 7 each night, like clockwork. He worked both at Vocational Services Inc. and at the family store, Fraki’s Finer Foods. He excelled in the Special Olympics, and loved to tell everyone all about it. The world’s biggest Partridge Family fan, his life was made complete when he got to meet David Cassidy in Escanaba four years ago. We would all be lucky to live half the life he lived.
Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, Martha & Ben Fraki; his father, John Bennetts; his sister, Lisa Holmstrom; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his mother, Carol Bennetts of Calumet; brother, Bob (Amy) Bennetts of Calumet; brother-in-law, Rich Holmstrom of Kingsford; aunt, Ruth Frankovich of Houghton; special niece and goddaughter, Molly Holmstrom of Ahmeek; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and countless special friends.
Scott’s family would like to thank Houghton County Medical Care Facility for the wonderful, kind, loving care they have provided him in his time there. In lieu of memorials, please consider donating to the Special Olympics at specialolympics.org. Private services will be held at a later date. Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home is assisting Scott’s family with the arrangements.
