Obituary for Emma Esther Matson

Emma Esther  Matson
Emma Matson, 102, of Laurium, died Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at the Houghton County
Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she resided for the passed three and a half years.

She was born on September 2, 1912 in Copper City, a daughter of the late William and Mary (Maatta) Matson.

She graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1932.

Emma moved to Detroit and worked in the Dietary Department at Henry Ford Hospital from 1942-1974.

She then moved back to the Copper Country to retire.

She was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church.

The thing that Emma enjoyed most was spending quality time with all of her family.

Preceding her death were her sisters, Helen and Evelyn; and her brothers, William, Alfred and Paul.

Surviving is her sister, Ruth (E.J.) Smith of Ramona, California;

and her niece, Jean (David) Larson of Milford, Michigan;

great nieces and nephews, William (Martha) Larson, Benjamin (Lianne) Larson, Kaarina Bienek,
Thomas (Kristen), Mary (Matthew) Sadler, Reid, Jennie (Derek) Bosley, Elizabeth
(Brad) Filips, Nathan and Lars

great-great nieces and nephews, Ethan, Joshua, Maria, Peter, Zachary, Isaac and Jared Larson, Ciara,
Clay and Molly Larson; Clara, Helen and Esther Bienkek, Jack, Joseph, Andrew, Kirby and Eva Larson,
Anna and Gretchen Sadler; Dominic Smith, Quinn and Tyge Bosley;

and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 19, 2015, at 3 p.m. at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church
in Calumet with Pastor David Taivalkoski to officiate.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Friday.

Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.

The Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet is assisting the family with the arrangements.
