Mary Murphy, 97, a resident of Gardenview assisted Living in Calumet passed away on Friday May 15, 2015.
She was born on August 22, 1917 in Red Jacket a daughter of the late Martin and Eugenia (Gabanna) Coppo.
She graduated from Calumet High School with the class of 1935. She then went on to attend nurses training at St. Mary's Hospital in Lasalle, Illinois graduating in 1938. After her graduation Mary worked as an operating room nurse and clinical instructor at St. Marys. She returned to the Copper Country to care for her mother when her brothers were in World War II.
Mary worked as an operating room surgical nurse at Calumet Public Hospital where she met Dr. Percy Murphy. When Dr. Murphy began his own practice Mary was his assistant.
Mary was married to Percy Murphy MD on August 19, 1948 and he preceded her in death in September 1992.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Calumet.
She was preceded in death by 7 brothers: Guiseppe, John ,Henry, Edward, William, Francis and Martin.
Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Special Friend Jeanne Eilola who was a wonderful comfort and help to Mary in recent years, spending untold hours with her.
Thanks to the staff at Garden View and Aspirus Keweenaw Home Nursing and Hospice for their care of Mary.

A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday May 22, 2015 at 11:00 AM in Sacred Heart Church in Calumet with Fr. Abraham Mupparathara to officiate and Deacon Art Stancher to assist.
Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
