Mohawk |

Died February 28, 2010 |
| |
Robert A. Sprietzer, 81, a resident of Mohawk went home to be with his Lord on February 28th, 2010. He passed away in his childhood home after a valiant 14 month battle with cancer.
He was born on November 13, 1928 in Mohawk a son of the late John “Jeff” and Lillian (Klinghammer) Sprietzer.
He was married to May Keranen on November 30, 1948 who preceded him in death on January 13, 1998. He later married Fern Salo on February 28, 2003.
Bob grew up in the Mohawk school system and started supporting himself at age 12. He worked his way from his first jobs of setting bowling pins at the White House, driving a grocery truck for Mike Foley, and lumberjacking and loading truck for Ray Aldrich Lumber Co., to being a devoted employee of General Motors in Detroit for 30 years from 1950-1981. He was an admirably hard worker who went from being a machine welder and tool and die setter all the way up the ladder to plant superintendent. His plant had the highest production numbers ever shown due to his strong work ethic, and the work ethic he instilled and expected in his workers. He had attended University of Detroit , Dale Carnegie, and G.M.I. Management courses.
During his years at GM, Bob returned to his beloved U.P. every year of his life to vacation and visit family, and retired back into his childhood home in Mohawk. He was the first one by his mother’s side when he lost his father Jeff to a sudden death heart attack, and he and May lovingly took care of his mother Lillian in their home in Dearborn Heights , before her death from pancreatic cancer in 1980.
Bob loved being out in nature with hobbies of hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing, and golfing. He accomplished a Hole-In-One at the Pueblo Mirage Golf Course in Arizona where he wintered after retirement, and won a number of Keweenaw Mountain Lodge and Calumet Championships in the summers. (He had the strong golf swing of a former lumberjack, admired and envied by young and old!)
Bob was a devoted husband of 49 years to his beloved wife, whom he cared for at home for two years following her stroke; something his daughters will always hold dearly in their hearts. His daughters will never forget the cold days he withstood, to pank the banks and flood their backyard to make them their own private skating rink each winter, and the summers of camping, swimming, boating, water skiing, and vacationing throughout Michigan and at Red Sands Cabins in LacLaBelle. He also provided each of them with college educations and beautiful weddings. His second wife Fern was treated to a wonderful honeymoon in Hawaii and winters in Arizona . Bob remained devoted to our Lord as a Catholic, who along with May, brought each of his daughters to know, respect, and love the Lord. He anxiously anticipated being with our Lord again at the end of his life, grateful for the gift of everlasting life given to us by our Lord’s Love through His Son Jesus.
He was preceded in death by his loving first wife of 49 years, May (Keranen) of Copper City, his parents and a sister Barbara Latvila.
He will be deeply missed by: his second wife Fern
